Are you up to speed on the Rules of Golf?
No player is expected to know the ins-and-outs of every rule out there on the course. However, a general knowledge of the basic rules are important for a competitive golfer, as knowledge of the rules can both benefit you as the player (i.e. – when/where to take appropriate relief); as well as helping speed up play (not having to delay to seek help as much on the course).
Aside from the most common situations that occur on the course — Penalty Areas and Lost Ball/Out-of-Bounds — perhaps the most important rule that a player should be familiar with is Rule 20.1c(3) (Doubt as to Procedure) … in other words, play 2 balls and explain the situation at the scoring table for an official ruling; then keep playing your round at a good pace.
NAJG encourages all players to download the official Rules of Golf mobile app.
